About Us

Preserving Our Roots, Honoring Our Ancestors

Bitasyon’m exists to explain and protect what keeps Haitian people rooted, connected, and alive across generations.

Our Cultural Foundation

In our culture, bitasyon and lakou are not symbols or ideas — they are lived realities.

bitasyon is our ancestral foundation. It is our family lineage, the roots we inherit from those who came before us. It carries the presence, strength, and protection of our ancestors. Even when land is lost or families are scattered, the bitasyon remains alive through blood, memory, and spirit.

lakou is where those roots live on the ground. It is where our grandparents and earlier generations were born and raised. It is the place we return to — even if we were not born there — because that is where our people are.

Veve is part of this connection. Veve is not decoration or art. It is a sacred spiritual language — a way to call, honor, and communicate with the spirits and ancestors.

Through veve, we remember who we are and who stands with us.
Some lakous are also spiritual lakous — living centers of Haitian Vodou with deep history and tradition. These are sacred community spaces, not tourist sites, where culture, memory, and spirit are actively maintained.

Why Bitasyon'm Exists

Bitasyon’m is about keeping this knowledge alive.

It exists so our culture is understood, respected, and not erased or distorted.

To understand Haiti, you must understand our ancestors.

To understand our ancestors, you must understand bitasyon, lakou, and veve.

— This is our truth. This is our foundation. —
